Start Loving and Caring for Yourself

If someone asked you to name everything you love, how long would it take before you mentioned yourself? Would you even think of yourself?

This thought struck me one evening while organizing a family dinner. I wanted everything to be perfect the food, the setup, the ambiance. I spent hours cooking, setting the table, and making sure everyone had exactly what they needed.

As the evening unfolded, I was busy serving plates, refilling drinks, and checking in on everyone’s comfort. By the time I sat down, I realized I hadn’t eaten anything. My plate was still empty, but I told myself it didn’t matter. I thought, As long as they’re happy, I’m fine.

But was I really?

Later, as I cleaned up alone, it hit me: I had poured all my energy into making sure everyone else was cared for, and I forgot to care for myself.

It made me wonder:

  • How often do we put others first and leave ourselves behind?
  • How can we keep giving when we’re running on empty?
  • How can we show up for others when we don’t show up for ourselves?

We often think that putting ourselves last is the right thing to do, but it’s not sustainable. You can’t give what you don’t have. If…
